The Texas A&M Potato Breeding Program focuses on the development of improved potato varieties, mainly for the fresh and chipping markets, that result in economic profits for the industry and superior products for consumers.

We use conventional, molecular, and statistical genomics approaches to understand the genetic basis of important traits and to maximize genetic gains from selection.

We cooperate with the North Dakota, USDA/ARS Aberdeen, ID, and Colorado breeding programs through the exchange of first-year seedling tubers and/or advanced selections.

We participate in the Western Regional Trials (russet, red/specialty, and chipping), Southwestern Regional Trials (russet, red/specialty, and chipping), and National Trials (chipping).
